After Effects vs a logo animation studio
After Effects is the right home for custom timeline work. Dexta is the right home when the job is one official mark, one short clip, and an export for the room you are walking into. They are not the same category.
What After Effects still owns
Keyframe-level control, custom easing, expressions, 3D cameras, editorial, and the agency handoff. If a motion designer needs to live on a graph editor, they should. No honest SaaS clip will replace that file.
AE is also the better answer when the logo is one layer in a larger sequence: film titles, a full brand film, a pack of sized variants with different timings. That is motion design as a craft, not a single lockup.
What a plate-locked studio is for
A designer who already has the SVG and needs a five-second open for tomorrow’s pitch. A studio that will not let an image model invent a new wordmark. A workflow that is brief → one generate → MP4 / GIF / transparent WebM — without standing up a composition.
You lose the timeline. You gain a guarantee the first and last frame are the plate you prepped. That trade is the product.
Versus generic AI video
After Effects will not redraw your logo unless a person does. Generative video tools will, unless you fight them. Dexta sits in the gap: faster than a comp, stricter than a text-to-video prompt. If you needed a city at dusk behind the mark, none of these three tools should pretend that is on-brand by default.
A practical split
Use Dexta when the identity must survive a still. Use After Effects when the identity is a sequence you will continue to edit. Use neither as a logo generator. The file that walks into the meeting should still be the file that came from the brand folder.
Questions designers ask
Can Dexta export After Effects?
Not in this version. AE handoff is a later phase. Today you leave with MP4, GIF, transparent WebM, or an embed snippet.
Is this cheaper than hiring a motion designer?
It is a different job. Hire the motion designer for timeline craft. Use a plate-locked studio when you need a short, official lockup without opening a comp.
Will this replace my AE templates?
No. Keep the templates for packaged shows and custom type-on. Use Dexta when the input is the client’s actual mark and the output must still be that mark.
